GUIDELINE FOR REVIEWERS

THE ASIAN CARDIOVASCULAR & THORACIC ANNALS is an international peer-reviewed journal pertaining to cardiovascular and thoracic medicine. Besides original clinical manuscripts, we welcome research reports, case studies, product reviews, reports of new techniques, and findings of special significance to the Asian region. Workshop proceedings, meetings and book reviews, regional events/news, letters to the editor, and meeting announcements are encouraged along with relevant articles from western authors.
Contributions are reviewed by selected editors and invited referees. It is our policy to provide blinded reviews. Neither reviewers nor authors will be identified, so there is no possibility of bias in any editorial decision. Accepted material may be revised by editors for clarity, length, and style, without altering the meaning. Only one set of proofs is sent to the contact author and return is expected within five working days (only minor alterations are permitted). If a submission is accepted for publication, no part of the material therein may be reproduced without the written permission from Asia Publishing EXchange Ltd. All submissions and illustrations will not be returned to the author(s). For rejected papers, only the original photographs/illustrations, copyright transfer and declaration statements are returned. The editorial office will be responsible for proper disposal of the manuscripts so that confidentiality is preserved.
In order to give an qualitative review of the manuscripts, the following points should be considered:
- Method and research design
- Results
- Discussions (in terms of accuracy and adequacy of relevant literature)
- Conclusion
- Written language
- References
- in terms of relevance to the paper
- any new suggestion
- Statistics
- Diagrams and tables
- Your overall impression of the paper on the following topics:
- Significant contribution to the literature
- Style of presentation in terms of clarity
With regard to the above points considered, it should be able to answer to the following questions.
- Under what category would you look to find this paper in addition to the key words?
- Does this paper represent a significant contribution to the literature?
- Does this paper represent work which, so far as you know, is original?
- Are the major conclusions justified?
- Is the relevant literature accurately and adequately discussed?
- Is the research design and methodology appropriate (where applicable)?
- Is the mathematics (if any) as brief as is consistent with clarity?
- Is the statistical analysis correct (where applicable)?
- Are the tables and diagrams suitable and essential to the paper?
- Is the quality of illustrations enough for publish?
Then, it could be concluded whether the manuscript is worth publishing.When the manuscript is fully reviewed, it is encouraged to provide comments for each of the questions stated above. Other comments and suggestions are welcome. It is helpful for the authors and us to improve the quality of the manuscript.
Completion of Recommendation Form
Recommendation form can be completed through electronic submission system. You are required to submit the following things whenever you complete a review.
First, you must give a rating for overall quality of the manuscript, based on the criteria stated above. The rating are as follows:
- Poor 01 - 25
- Acceptable 26 - 50
- Good 51 - 75
- Excellent 76 - 100
Second, for each of the questions stated above, you are encouraged to provide comments to help authors to improve their manuscripts.
Finally, you are required to suggest whether the manuscript can be published.
